Dr. Ryan James Hartley Beck, PT, DPT
Dr. Ryan James Hartley Beck, PT, DPT, is a dedicated sports and vestibular physical therapist with a passion for helping athletes perform at their highest level while remaining healthy and resilient. He earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Daemen University in 2024 after completing his Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences in 2022. Before beginning his career in physical therapy, Dr. Beck was a Division I/II NCAA men’s volleyball student-athlete at Daemen University from 2018 to 2021, providing him with firsthand experience of the physical and mental demands placed on competitive athletes.
Dr. Beck has pursued advanced education and professional development in sports medicine, emergency response, and vestibular rehabilitation. His certifications include Emergency Response of the Athlete through Cogent Steps, LLC, CPR/BLS/AED certification through the American Heart Association, and STOP THE BLEED® tourniquet certification. He has also completed advanced training in vestibular rehabilitation through the Institute of Advanced Musculoskeletal Treatment. Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Beck has contributed to the profession through his involvement with the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT), including reviewing and updating the ACAPT Leadership Compass. He also contributed to published research through a poster presentation alongside six colleagues at the 2023 ACAPT Leadership Conference.
Throughout his clinical career, Dr. Beck has developed extensive experience working with athletes across a wide range of sports and performance levels. In a previous role, he helped develop and implement sport injury screening protocols designed to identify potential injuries and performance limitations before they became significant barriers to participation. His clinical experience includes treating recreational athletes, competitive collegiate athletes, professional and retired athletes, and military personnel. He has worked with athletes participating in volleyball, lacrosse, basketball, tennis, running, rowing, softball, water polo, football, and hockey, as well as active-duty and retired military personnel.
One of Dr. Beck’s most notable clinical experiences was at Rehab 2 Perform in Annapolis, Maryland, where he treated active-duty members of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, as well as competitive athletes and USA Powerlifters. This experience provided him with the opportunity to work with highly active populations while developing a strong foundation in performance-based rehabilitation, injury prevention, and return-to-sport programming.
Dr. Beck also gained valuable sports medicine experience at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, where he treated recreational and competitive football and hockey players. These experiences have strengthened his ability to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and performance, allowing him to develop individualized treatment strategies that address not only an athlete’s injury, but also the physical demands required to safely return to their sport.
Dr. Beck is particularly passionate about sports and vestibular rehabilitation and is committed to providing evidence-based, individualized care. His background as both a competitive athlete and physical therapist allows him to understand the challenges athletes face throughout the rehabilitation process and to develop treatment plans focused on restoring confidence, maximizing performance, and helping patients return to the activities they love.
